Houston-based Burke Law Group is poised to receive a $150 million federal contract to provide legal services to thousands of unaccompanied migrant children in immigration proceedings. The Department of Health and Human Services announced its intent to award the contract to the 26-representative firm, with the proposed agreement running from August 2026 through August 2027.
The firm would provide legal orientation, consultation, and attorney-of-record representation for eligible children in government custody. The proposed award represents a significant shift from the previous provider, the Acacia Center for Justice, which coordinated a nationwide network serving tens of thousands of children. The selection of the smaller Houston firm has prompted questions from immigration advocates about how the existing caseload will be transferred and managed.
